Pacquiao abandons signs of fighting with Amir Khan in Dubai next year
Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, politician and legend of Filipino boxing, insists that he still has some fights because the world champion of eight divisions is planning a return to the ring in 2020 with Amir Khan, from Britain, probably his next opponent and Dubai as the place to fight his.
Both had planned a fight in Dubai in 2017, but the discussions did not materialize.
The dreams of thousands of fans and the UAE-based Filipino community of seeing Pacquiao fight against the emirate could now come true when the boxer star once again hinted to having conversations with Khan for a possible confrontation in Dubai.
Pacquiao, 40, who won a unanimous decision over American Keith Thurman for the WBA welterweight title last July, said he would like to fight in Dubai next year.
“I can still fight and I do not intend to retire soon,” said Pacquiao, founder of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), which will make its first international foray into the Middle East.
Amir recovered from his loss to Terence Crawford in April by winning the WBC International Welterweight title after stopping Billy Dib in Jeddah in July.
“I’m planning a fight for next year with a possible opponent, Amir wants to fight with me, we’ll be talking to him again to celebrate a fight in Dubai and that would be a good fight,” said the Filipino senator.
Pacquiao launched the MPBL in 2017, which has grown from 10 to 31 teams.
The current welterweight champion WBA will participate in an exhibition match every day of the action, with three teams from the MPBL: inaugural champions Batangas City Athletics, Imus Bandera and the Western Davao Tigers, who will compete regular season games in both seasons. days at the Hamdan Sports Complex on September 27th and 28th.
